The Oxford Companion to Beer is now available!

Posted October 4, 2011 | 5:47 pm, by Mirella

I just received the copy of the Oxford Companion to Beer that I pre-ordered through Amazon a month ago and I must say that I’m very proud to have been a part of this project. I was one of seven Canadian contributors and penned 8 entries on various subjects.

The Companion is a lovely book and I was happy to hear that it got a great review in the New York Times. Garrett Oliver, who edited the Companion, told us about the review at a small get together that was held for contributors in Denver last week. There, we also got to sample the Companion brewmaster’s reserve, which Garrett has created to accompany the book. Apparently the beer & book will be available as a box set. How fantastic is that? At this get-together, I learned that Garrett has been working on this book since 2007 and he was clearly very happy to see the project completed.

I haven’t yet found a moment to sit and read through large chunks the Companion but based on the team of contributors, editors and publishers that were at the gathering in Denver last week, I am confident that it is a great resource and Mr. Asimov, of the NY Times comments that “until the “Companion” no book has ever tried to consolidate the extent of what is known about how beer is made, categorized and consumed.” I highly recommend picking up a copy!
